ABOUT
Known for his commanding tone and lush harmonic textures, Mateo’s approach to storytelling is timeless. Born and raised in Los Angeles, the city has inspired his coming of age songs, capturing heartbreak and rebellion through an LGBTQ+ lens. Whether he’s devoting his artistry to singing and arranging vocals, collaborating on compositions for other artists, or writing his own music, Mateo is consistently pushing boundaries and striving to move people with his music.
Immersed in the arts from an early age, Mateo discovered his passion for performing through musical theater. His journey began at the tender age of six, gracing the stage in his first community production, where his love for storytelling took root.
Growing up, Mateo honed his skills in a number regional productions during his teenage years such as his portrayal of Elliott McQueen in the Off-Broadway production of Generation ME at the New York Musical Theater Festival in 2017.
While theater holds a special place in his heart, Mateo's love for recorded and live music has become his true calling.
Mateo's Musical Journey
While exploring his musical interests in high school he discovered organizations such as A Cappella Academy, which unearthed his genuine love for the art of collaborative music. This love for a cappella music led to him participating in groups like Calabasas High School’s Unstrumental and Legacy directed by Rob Dietz. This experience inspired his collegiate journey, in groups like Pitch Slapped at Berklee College of Music and The SoCal VoCals at the University of Southern California, where he served as President for two years.
Mateo is a graduating senior from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music majoring in Popular Music with an emphasis in Vocals and Songwriting. This Program has made it possible for him to study under and share the stage with leading musicians in the vibrant Los Angeles music scene.
As a developing artist, Mateo is also an experienced session vocalist, top-liner, and award-winning arranger. He has performed and recorded background vocals with artists like Pentatonix, Libianca, and Trousdale. As a songwriter, he is comfortable in collaborations ranging from Country to K-Pop. His arrangements have been performed in theaters nationally, and he was recently awarded “Best Arrangement” at the 2023 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Quarterfinal in Los Angeles alongside his best friends and co-arrangers.
Throughout his entire life, Mateo has consistently demonstrated a commitment to breaking barriers and pursuing excellence with every endeavor. Whether you need a captivating choir arrangement for a film score or a chart-topping synth-pop hit, Mateo stands as the unparalleled choice to bring your vision to life.
